Welcome to the Ennis Public Safety Communications Center

Communications, like patrol, is a 24-hour, 7-day-a-week operation. This means that a communications officer must be available at all times to handle all activity.

The current list of communications officers for the City of Ennis are, Jan Wilkinson, Carol Wolaver, Richard Green, and Aimee Nichols.

The communications officer is responsible for answering all 911 calls and all non-emergency phone lines.  In addition to taking the calls, they also dispatch officers to the calls. This includes police, fire, and ambulance calls, if an ambulance is needed the call is transferred to East Texas Medical Center EMS who can give pre-arrival instructions if needed, or first-aid instructions.  All this activity while continuing with other activities and calls.

In addition to regular dispatch duties, dispatchers also monitor and videotape the jail cells and prisoner book-in; record all officer activity and calls for service on the paper logs and in the computer system; submit computer entries to check for stolen property, wanted persons, vehicle registrations, and driver's license checks to the regional, state and national databases; and numerous other functions on an as-needed basis.

The communications officer on duty also acts as the City of Ennis Emergency Operations Center in the event of a major incident until the formal City of Ennis E.O.C. can be activated.

The communications center was updated in August 2004 with a new 911 system manufactured by Plant Equipment installed by at&t.  The office also had new countertops and cabinetry installed which will allow for future expansion by making it more convenient for two communications officers to work simultaneously.

A recent upgrade to the office included a computer controlled Siren Activation System.  This early warning system is state of the art and allows for real time updating of each siren status.  The City of Ennis has 7 sirens located throughout the city to ensure that residents of the city are warned of impending natural disasters.

Effective January 22nd, 2009 the City of Ennis will roll out our Connect-CTY system which will be activated through the dispatch center.
