SOP 204.02  EMS DISPATCH

The Ennis Fire Department E.M.S. Dispatch policy continues to revolve around an adequate, early and pessimistic response utilizing the closest available unit to handle emergency medical responses.

The primary Emergency Medical Service Provider for the City of Ennis, is East Texas Medical Center EMS.  They are a contracted provider, with units available for “First-Out” service response in the City of Ennis.   All Calls for Emergency response by ETEMS, initiated through the “911” system will be forwarded to ETMCEMS Dispatch Center in Tyler, Texas, and then the Ennis Dispatcher will tone-alert the unit via the tone-encoder for response.   The responding ETMCEMS unit will check en-route and on-scene with their dispatch center via their 800mhz trunked radio.   If a call for EMS is reported to our dispatch center by other than “911” (Radio, back-line telephone, direct verbal report), the dispatcher will notify ETMCEMS Dispatch center and report the call, then tone-alert the units via the tone-alert encoder.

The Ennis Fire Department E.M.S. Division responds to and transports only medical and trauma calls, which are emergency in nature.  When ETMCEMS is not available, or is on multiple calls, Ennis Fire Department EMS will be dispatched.

The Ennis Fire Department E.M.S. Division is not a routine provider of non-emergency response and transport. This would include calls for transfer from home, nursing home or medical facility to another location.  This service is provided by East Texas EMS.

All calls for Emergency Medical Service, where ETMCEMS is dispatched by the City of Ennis Communications Division, The 911 call or the information will be forwarded to ETMCEMS Dispatch Center.
